Though arguably it could have stolen the 13th place but eh So yeah, Hard Candy is strong on its own - i surprisingly started really liking it while writing this, to the point where i scrapped an entire review that was just calling it boring trash from front to back lol oops -, but it ultimately gets squashed by any other Madonna album. Hell, it looks bland as fuck in comparison. it just doesn't stand a chance against the rest of her discography. And that's where Hard Candy's greatest weakness make it trip down to 14th place. Hard Candy is Madonna's 10th album, and to make things worse, it succeeds to Confessions on a Dance Floor. If this was a pop girl's debut, i think it would be deemed extremely solid, and yeah it would be. The production is also really good on the majority of tracks, just solid dance-pop all around. It's basically your standard (maybe a tiny bit too standard, but we'll get back to this later) 2008 dance album with some standouts bops like 4 Minutes, Give It 2 Me (that bridge makes the whole song) & Candy Shop (the "sticky and sweet" part is incredibly addicting), and a fantastical song in the form of Voices (also shoutouts to Ring My Bell because that song is such a fucking mess lmao, it came up on shuffle like 10 minutes ago and i had to pause everything to cackle a bit). Thoughts: Okay, so let's begin by setting things straight: Hard Candy is not a bad album.Favorite track on 1st listen: 4 Minutes (feat. But how does she holds up to it ? I listened to her albums in that order: Rebel Heart> Confessions on a Dance Floor> Madonna> Like a Virgin> True Blue> Like a Prayer> Erotica> Bedtime Stories> Ray of Light> Music> American Life> Hard Candy> MDNA> Madame X> The Immaculate Collection> Something to Remember> Celebration> You Can Dance, and now here is my ranking of her entire discography + a few thoughts on each album. that was, until i decided to fully dive in her discography and listen to every single Madonna album, the so called Queen Of Pop. Eventually, some songs of hers made their way into my library, though i never went farther than Hung Up, Bitch I'm Madonna, Material Girl and Vogue. Then, when i joined r/popheads, i had no choice but to be exposed to her sheer iconicity, from the entire Erotica era to her undying love & support for the LGBTQ+ community to this work of art, all of which already made me 50% stan her. Of course, i was subsconsciously aware of her existence, and i knew she was a fairly controversial singer, but i didn't know why, or what song she actually sang, or pretty much anything else about her. Well, i say that, but for like 80% of my life i didn't really know who Madonna was. This name holds so much power - only because of the person behind it though.
